# West Sumatra vehicle tax 2026: rates, online checks and payment

**How much is vehicle tax in West Sumatra, and how do I check and pay it?**

West Sumatra's vehicle tax (PKB) rate is 1.05% for a first vehicle, with no progressive rate, plus a 66% opsen for the regency or city. Check the bill through Cek Pajak Kendaraan or E-Samsat Sumbar, and pay annual tax there or in the national SIGNAL app. Late payment incurs 1% interest a month for up to 24 months. 2026 relief programme: 3 August 2026–31 December 2026.

## How to check and pay West Sumatra vehicle tax online

Bapenda Sumbar's web checker at https://bapenda.sumbarprov.go.id/cek-pajak: enter the plate number (format BA 1234 XYZ) and the last 5 digits of the chassis number (nomor rangka) to see the PKB, opsen PKB, SWDKLLJ, any sanctions, administration fees and the total due, which Bapenda describes as real-time. To pay online, private owners can use the national SIGNAL app (Korlantas), which lists West Sumatra; Bapenda's infographic names Bank Mandiri, Bank Nagari, BRI, myBCA, DANA and GoPay as payment options inside SIGNAL. The provincial E-Samsat Sumbar app also shows vehicle tax information but has not been updated since January 2024.

## West Sumatra vehicle tax relief in 2026

**Diskon Pajak Kendaraan Bermotor Mutasi Masuk dari Luar Sumatera Barat (also announced as Program Pemutihan Pajak Kendaraan Bermotor Sumatera Barat Tahun 2026).** Running 3 August 2026–31 December 2026.

Only for vehicles registered outside West Sumatra (non-BA plates) that are moved into the province and transferred to BA plates with a change of ownership name (balik nama): 50% off the PKB principal up to and including the current tax year, and a 100% waiver of the administrative sanction (fine) for late PKB payment. Available at Samsat offices and at Ditlantas Polda Sumbar. It is not a general amnesty: BA-plated vehicles with arrears get no discount or fine waiver under this programme. Official announcements do not say whether the discount also covers opsen PKB. Ongoing on 2026-09-25.

### Other 2026 reductions

- Bapenda Sumbar, the Samsat partners and local governments are holding 'Gebyar Pajak' prize draws for owners who pay PKB on time (e.g. Pesisir Selatan on 11 July 2026 and Kota Padang on 30 August 2026, with umrah packages, electric motorbikes and gold). A province-wide Gebyar Pajak Sumatera Barat is scheduled for 3 October 2026 at the Governor's office. These are rewards, not tax reductions.

## Penalty for paying West Sumatra vehicle tax late

Late PKB incurs interest of 1% a month for up to 24 months, with any part of a month counted as a full month; the same applies to opsen. The SWDKLLJ contribution has its own fine of 25% to 100% of the annual amount, capped at Rp100,000. (Provincial basis: Perda Provinsi Sumatera Barat Nomor 8 Tahun 2023 Pasal 92 ayat (7) (bunga 1% per bulan dari pajak yang tidak atau kurang dibayar, dari tanggal jatuh tempo sampai tanggal pembayaran, paling lama 24 bulan, bagian bulan dihitung penuh, ditagih dengan STPD); repeated specifically for PKB in Pergub Sumatera Barat Nomor 1 Tahun 2025 Pasal 15 ayat (1).)

### How do I check my vehicle tax in West Sumatra online?

Go to https://bapenda.sumbarprov.go.id/cek-pajak and enter the plate number (e.g. BA 1234 XYZ) and the last 5 digits of the chassis number. It shows the PKB, opsen PKB, SWDKLLJ, any sanctions and the total due. Privately owned vehicles can be paid online through the SIGNAL app.

### What is the PKB rate in West Sumatra, and is there still a progressive rate?

Under West Sumatra Provincial Regulation (Perda) No. 8 of 2023, Article 7, the PKB rate is 1.05% for vehicle ownership, and 0.5% for public transport, employee and school transport, ambulances, fire engines, social/religious bodies and central/regional government vehicles. Since 5 January 2025 there is no progressive rate (the old 1.65% rate with 2.5%-4% progressive tiers was revoked). Opsen PKB of 66% of the PKB due is added for the regency/city, so the combined charge is 1.743% of the tax base.

### Is there a West Sumatra vehicle tax amnesty (pemutihan) in 2026?

There is no general amnesty. From 3 August to 31 December 2026 a programme runs only for vehicles moving in: non-BA-plated vehicles transferred to BA plates with a change of ownership name get 50% off the PKB principal up to the current tax year and a 100% waiver of late-payment PKB fines. ### What is the late-payment penalty for PKB in West Sumatra?

West Sumatra Perda No. 8 of 2023, Article 92(7), and Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 1 of 2025, Article 15(1), set interest of 1% per month on the tax due, from the due date to the payment date, for at most 24 months, with part of a month counted as a full month.
