Transfer used-vehicle ownership in Indonesia
Transfer a used vehicle’s Indonesian registration with sale documents, physical inspection, STNK, BPKB and fee checks.

After buying a used motorcycle or car, update STNK and BPKB ownership through the competent Samsat/Police service. Bring identity, sale evidence, STNK, BPKB and the vehicle for inspection where required. Paying annual tax in SIGNAL does not transfer ownership.

Match chassis and engine numbers with STNK/BPKB and seller identity; ask about blocks or unpaid tax.
Visit Samsat
Ask about inter-region transfer if the vehicle comes from another jurisdiction and confirm local documents.
Complete inspection
Bring the vehicle for inspection as instructed and keep the result.
Pay and inspect records
Pay official charges, collect STNK/BPKB as scheduled and check owner, address, chassis and engine details.

Costs combine Police registration charges, vehicle tax, possible arrears and applicable local charges. Amounts vary by vehicle and province; request an official Samsat breakdown.

Annual tax is not ownership transfer
SIGNAL supports eligible annual STNK renewals. Ownership transfer needs owner-identity checks, documents and commonly physical inspection. Finish the transfer before relying on services in the new owner’s name.
Things to check carefully
- Do not buy solely from a BPKB photo; inspect originals.
- Do not assume another province’s charges apply locally.

Does SIGNAL tax payment replace transfer?
