BPJS for ride-hailing drivers and couriers: contributions, the 50% discount, joining and claiming

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions for self-employed ride-hailing drivers and couriers, the 50% JKK and JKM discount to March 2027, joining, claims and JKN.

English edition. Official forms and source documents may be in Indonesian.

QUICK ANSWER

How much is BPJS for self-employed ride-hailing drivers and couriers, how do I join, and how do I claim after an accident?

Ride-hailing drivers and couriers who work as app partners join BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as non-wage workers (BPU): employment accident insurance (JKK) and death benefit (JKM) are compulsory, while the old-age savings scheme (JHT) is optional. The lowest contributions are Rp10,000 for JKK plus Rp6,800 for JKM a month, and for the transport sector both are cut by 50% for contributions from January 2026 to March 2027 (PP 50/2025), so you pay just Rp8,400. For illness and treatment outside work accidents you also need JKN from BPJS Kesehatan, for example class III at Rp35,000 per person a month.

What to have ready

  • Your NIK or KTP-el, an email address and an active mobile number.
  • An estimate of your monthly income from driving or delivering, to choose the income base for JKK and JHT.
  • Work details: type of work (driver or courier), where you work and your working hours.
  • A savings account in your own name to receive claim payments.
  • The JMO (Jamsostek Mobile) app for your digital card and paying BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions, and Mobile JKN for BPJS Kesehatan.
  • For JKN: your KTP or family card (KK) and a savings book from a bank that offers direct debit (BNI, BRI, BTN, Mandiri or BCA).

How to join and use BPJS as a driver

  1. Know which schemes are compulsory

As a worker outside an employment relationship (self-employed), you must join JKK and JKM and may add JHT (Presidential Regulation 109/2013, Article 8(2)). JKK covers accidents while working, JKM pays out if you die from causes other than a work accident, and JHT is savings you can draw on later.

  2. Choose your income base honestly

JKK contributions are 1% and JHT 2% of the income base you choose from your monthly income band. For example, income up to Rp1,099,000 uses a base of Rp1,000,000. Temporary incapacity pay and death benefits after a work accident are calculated from this base, so under-reporting leaves you with small benefits.

  3. Register through an official channel

On bpjsketenagakerjaan.go.id choose Pendaftaran Peserta, then Bukan Penerima Upah (BPU), enter your email and the captcha, click the activation link in your email, fill in your details and pay with the contribution code you are sent. You can also go to a branch office, a Perisai agent, or an official partner such as BRILink agents, BNI Agen46 or the post office. Your membership card arrives within 7 days of payment.

  4. Pay contributions regularly

Pay monthly or for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months at once through JMO, partner banks, retail outlets or the other channels listed on the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan website, using just your NIK. For non-wage members, full JKM benefits are only paid once contributions have been made for 3 consecutive months.

  5. Add JKN from BPJS Kesehatan

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan does not cover ordinary illness. Register for JKN as a non-wage worker (PBPU) at a BPJS Kesehatan office or in Mobile JKN and choose a class. The first contribution is paid no earlier than 14 days and no later than 30 days after registering, so do not wait until you are ill.

  6. Report a work accident within 2×24 hours

If you are hurt while working, get medical help first, then report to a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan branch office within 2×24 hours (the stage I report). Have your membership card, KTP-el, a written account with copies of two witnesses’ KTPs, a police report for a traffic accident, and receipts ready.

BPJS contributions for drivers and couriers

Registering with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and BPJS Kesehatan is free; you only pay contributions. Monthly BPU contributions are: JKK at 1% of your income base (from Rp10,000), JKM at Rp6,800, and JHT at 2% if you choose it (from Rp20,000). For the transport sector, JKK and JKM contributions are cut by 50% for contributions from January 2026 to March 2027, bringing the lowest JKK and JKM package to Rp8,400. Self-paid JKN is Rp35,000 for class III, Rp100,000 for class II and Rp150,000 for class I per person a month.

Monthly contributions for self-employed ride-hailing drivers and couriers, checked 14 October 2026. The JKK and JHT examples use the lowest income base of Rp1,000,000 (income up to Rp1,099,000).

JKM (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan)Rp6,800Rp3,400Compulsory

JKN class II (BPJS Kesehatan)Rp100,000UnchangedPer person
JKN class I (BPJS Kesehatan)Rp150,000UnchangedPer person

The 50% cut applies to existing and new non-wage members whose contributions are not paid from the state or regional budget, and it does not reduce benefits (PP 50/2025, Articles 3 to 5). A BPJS Ketenagakerjaan article dated 18 May 2026 says the discount for ride-hailing drivers runs until December 2026; we follow Article 7 of PP 50/2025 and the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan BPU contributions page, which set March 2027 contributions as the end for the transport sector. The full JKN class III contribution is Rp42,000; the government pays Rp7,000 of it as a contribution subsidy. JKN has no late-payment fine, but there is a service penalty if you are admitted to hospital within 45 days of your membership being reactivated.

Who counts as a non-wage member and which schemes are compulsory

Non-wage members (BPU) are people who work without being paid wages by an employer, including workers outside an employment relationship and the self-employed (Presidential Regulation 109/2013, Article 7). Ride-hailing drivers and couriers who partner with app companies fall into this group, because theirs is a partnership rather than an employment relationship. Under Article 8(2) of the same regulation they must join JKK and JKM and may join JHT. The BPJS Ketenagakerjaan BPU page currently lists JHT, JKK and JKM.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, Presidential Regulation 27/2026 gives drivers a right to social protection covering at least health insurance, JKK and JKM. Official statements do not yet say who pays the contributions, so until the implementing rules appear, assume it is up to you to keep your membership active, and check your partnership agreement.

The BPJS Ketenagakerjaan BPU page also lists dedicated registration routes for partner drivers of two app companies, with contributions paid from the partner’s account balance. These routes are optional: direct registration on the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan website, at a branch office, through a Perisai agent or through official payment partners remains open to every driver and courier, whichever app they use.

The 50% JKK and JKM discount for the transport sector

Government Regulation (PP) 50/2025 on adjusting JKK and JKM contributions for non-wage members was signed and promulgated on 22 December 2025. The cut is 50% of the JKK and JKM contributions that would otherwise be due (Article 4), and benefits are not reduced (Article 5). Members whose contributions are paid from the state or regional budget do not get the cut.

For non-wage members in the transport sector, the cut applies to contributions for January 2026 to March 2027; for other sectors, to contributions for April to December 2026 (Article 7). The elucidation of Article 7 says the transport sector includes, among others, platform-based drivers, drivers not working through a platform, and couriers. If you have already paid in full for a discounted month, the overpayment is credited to the following month (Article 6).

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan gives this example: a member earning Rp1,100,000 to Rp1,299,000 pays Rp12,000 for JKK, which falls to Rp6,000 after the cut, and JKM falls from Rp6,800 to Rp3,400. JHT is not discounted. After March 2027 contributions return to normal unless new rules are issued.

JKK and JKM benefits for non-wage members

JKK covers care and treatment according to medical need, including class I inpatient care, surgery and rehabilitation, plus land transport costs up to Rp5,000,000. While you cannot work, you receive temporary incapacity pay (STMB) of 100% of your income base for the first 12 months and 50% after that.

If a member dies in a work accident, their heirs receive a death benefit of 48 times the income base (60% × 80 × income base, and at least the JKM death benefit), funeral costs of Rp10,000,000, a periodic benefit of Rp12,000,000 and scholarships for up to two children. Disability from a work accident is also compensated according to a table of disability percentages.

JKM pays out if a member dies from causes other than a work accident: a death benefit of Rp20,000,000, a periodic benefit of Rp12,000,000 and funeral costs of Rp10,000,000, plus children’s scholarships if contributions were paid for at least 3 years. For non-wage members, full JKM benefits are only paid after 3 consecutive months of contributions; otherwise only the funeral costs are paid.

How to claim JKK after an accident

Non-wage members or their families report directly to a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan branch office. The stage I report must be made within 2×24 hours, with a copy of your ID, your membership card and an account of what happened. The stage II report is completed after a doctor declares you recovered. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan decides whether the incident was a work accident within 30 days of receiving the stage I report.

Claim documents include forms 3, 3a and 3b (accident reports for stages I to III), your membership card, KTP-el, a written account with copies of two witnesses’ KTP-el, a police report for a traffic accident, treatment receipts and your savings book. The forms can be downloaded from the official website or collected from a branch office.

Payment is processed within 7 working days of the file being approved. You can track the claim at bpjsketenagakerjaan.go.id/tracking with your membership number (KPJ). Questions and complaints: call centre 175. For full steps at the scene of an accident, including Jasa Raharja compensation, see the guide on accidents and safety for drivers.

JKN from BPJS Kesehatan for drivers and their families

JKN pays for healthcare outside work accidents, such as dengue, typhoid or childbirth. Self-employed drivers register as non-wage workers (PBPU) and choose a class: class III costs Rp42,000 per person a month, of which the government pays Rp7,000 so you pay Rp35,000; class II costs Rp100,000; and class I Rp150,000 (Presidential Regulation 64/2020, Article 34).

Individual registration needs your KTP or family card and a savings book from a bank offering direct debit: BNI, BRI, BTN, Mandiri or BCA. The first contribution is paid no earlier than 14 days and no later than 30 days after registering. After that, contributions are due by the 10th of each month.

There has been no fine for late JKN contributions since 1 July 2016. However, if you are admitted to hospital within 45 days of your membership being reactivated, there is a service penalty of 5% of the initial diagnosis cost multiplied by the number of months in arrears (up to 12 months, and at most Rp30,000,000).

Things to check carefully

  • Assuming the app company automatically registers you and pays your BPJS. Check your membership and contributions in JMO and Mobile JKN.
  • Reporting income far below the real figure to keep contributions low. Temporary incapacity pay and work-accident death benefits are calculated from that income base.
  • Letting contributions lapse. Full JKM benefits for non-wage members require 3 consecutive months of contributions.
  • Delaying a work accident report. The stage I report to the branch office is due within 2×24 hours.
  • Thinking BPJS Ketenagakerjaan covers ordinary illness. That is JKN from BPJS Kesehatan, so you need both.
  • Paying a ‘registration fee’ to a middleman. Registration is free; you only pay contributions through official channels.

Frequently asked questions

Do ride-hailing drivers have to join BPJS Ketenagakerjaan?

Yes. Workers outside an employment relationship and the self-employed must join JKK and JKM and may add JHT (Presidential Regulation 109/2013, Article 8(2)). Ride-hailing drivers and couriers working as partners count as non-wage members (BPU).

How much is BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for a ride-hailing driver each month?

At least Rp16,800 for JKK and JKM (Rp10,000 + Rp6,800), or Rp8,400 while the 50% transport-sector discount applies to contributions from January 2026 to March 2027. Adding JHT costs 2% of your income base, from Rp20,000.

How long does the 50% BPJS discount for drivers last?

For the transport sector, until contributions for March 2027 (PP 50/2025, Article 7(a)). For non-wage members outside the transport sector, the cut covers contributions from April to December 2026. It applies only to JKK and JKM, not JHT.

Do food and parcel couriers get the discount too?

Yes. The elucidation of Article 7 of PP 50/2025 says the transport sector includes platform-based drivers, drivers not working through a platform, and couriers. You must be a non-wage member whose contributions are not paid from the state or regional budget.

What is the difference between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and BPJS Kesehatan for drivers?

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan covers work risks: work accidents (JKK), death (JKM) and old-age savings (JHT). BPJS Kesehatan runs JKN for treatment of illness outside work accidents. They are separate, and each has its own contributions.

How do I claim if I have an accident while working?

Get medical help, then report to a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan branch office within 2×24 hours. Bring your membership card, KTP-el, a written account with copies of two witnesses’ KTPs, a police report for a traffic accident, and receipts. Payment is processed within 7 working days of the file being approved.

What is paid if a non-wage member dies?

If the death is not from a work accident, JKM pays Rp42,000,000 (a Rp20,000,000 death benefit, a Rp12,000,000 periodic benefit and Rp10,000,000 for the funeral), provided contributions were paid for 3 consecutive months. If it is from a work accident, the JKK death benefit is 48 times the income base, at least equal to the JKM death benefit, plus funeral costs and the periodic benefit.

Must app companies pay drivers’ BPJS contributions?

That is not yet clear. According to the Ministry of Transportation, Presidential Regulation 27/2026 gives drivers a right to health insurance, JKK and JKM, but official statements do not say who pays, and the regulation’s text had not been published in the official legal databases as of 14 October 2026.
